Economic methodology is the study of methods in relation to economics, including principles underlying economic reasoning.

It includes:

1) the definition of economics,

2) the scope of economics as defined by its methods,

3) the scientific status of economics,

4) fundamental principles and operational significance of economic theory,

5) predictive vs. realistic aspects of simplifying assumptions, such as rational choice and profit maximizing,

6) methodological individualism versus holism in economic theory,

7) empirical and a priori approaches,

8) analysis of formalization and axiomatic methods in economics,

9) limitations on and uses of experimental methods,

10) analysis of theory and practice in contemporary economics.
